A site of exceptional natural beauty
Within a space of a few decades, the beautiful “Vallée du Léguer” has evolved tremendously. Salmon and otter have remained in the valley proving its high environmental quality.
Only 50 years ago, the “rivière du léguer” was not just a site of natural beauty but also a centre for social and economic activities: the river provided water for mills, pastures, wash-houses and funtains. Over the years, much has changed. Mills have disappeared, companies shut down, and pastures left untended.
Left to itself, the river and its banks reverted to wilderness. In 1987 a hurricane caused lots of damage in Brittany and people realized how important it was to restore and to give a second life to the Valley.
For this reason, in 1990 the association of the “Vallée du Léguer” was created, in order to become a site of activities and communication about the river. The aims of the association are:
*the protection, development and awareness of the natural and cultural environment
*provision of information for visitors and locals
The association is in partnership with the communities and the valley users.
Leguer-leger: celtic name, “leg” means slow , soft
So “Leguer”means : a stream which flows slowly.

The valley in the West of Côtes d’Armor is mainly rural. The principal activity is agriculture. In the North , Lannion and the coast are urban centres with strong industrial and tourist activities. Various types of terrain are to be found of in the “Vallée du Léguer”. From wetlands in the south through forests and a granit plateau leading through the wooded valley to the estuary of lannion |
